Multi-location infrastructure operations

Supporting and standardizing network infrastructure across more than 120 communities

Network and telecommunications operations across 120+ communities connected approximately 2,500 wireless access points, 2,000 business phones, and 120 firewalls through consistent standards and coordinated support.

Operating context

The environment

A large community portfolio required reliable daily support and long-term standardization across networks, wireless, firewalls, business communications, carrier services, vendors, and location-specific infrastructure.

Senior network engineering leadership supported and standardized the environment, coordinating technical operations, project activity, vendors, carriers, policies, deployments, migrations, and outage response across more than 120 communities.

The challenge

Why the work required a connected approach

Scale amplified every inconsistency. Differences in circuits, equipment, configurations, buildings, local vendors, documentation, and lifecycle status could turn routine changes into extended troubleshooting or operational disruption.

The operating model combined repeatable network and security standards with location-level context. Projects and incidents were coordinated through common requirements, escalation paths, documentation expectations, and technical ownership.

Connected workstreams

Several disciplines moving through one operating plan.

Network and wireless standards

Supported switching, VLANs, wireless deployments, addressing, coverage, administration, and repeatable infrastructure patterns across diverse locations.

Communications and carrier coordination

Managed circuit installations, service migrations, business-phone dependencies, carrier escalation, and validation across location timelines.

Security and resilience

Coordinated firewall policy, secure connectivity, failover considerations, access requirements, and standardized administration.

Incident and vendor ownership

Connected outage remediation, vendor activity, local access, escalation, technical evidence, and follow-through until service was restored and documented.

Results and operating value

What the work made possible

  • More consistent network, wireless, firewall, and communications practices across the portfolio
  • Coordinated support for approximately 2,500 access points, 2,000 phones, and 120 firewalls
  • Clearer carrier, vendor, and internal ownership during projects and outages
  • A stronger operational foundation for lifecycle planning and multi-location change
